Administrative automation starts at the front desk
A large share of work activities are automatable, in a clinic concentrated in scheduling and billing.
Interoperability is the precondition for every analytics and AI benefit. No exchange, no insight.
A brilliant AI feature is worthless if it can't see the data. Before intelligence comes plumbing, and in healthcare, the plumbing has names: HL7 and DICOM.
Gartner's interoperability guidance and the standards work of health authorities such as the US ONC establish data exchange as the base layer of any modern health IT strategy. Instruments, imaging, and labs that can't share results leave every downstream tool starved.
When a system speaks HL7 and connects to DICOM imaging and worklists, results flow into the patient record automatically. The specialty AI has something to read, the clinician stops re-entering data, and the record becomes genuinely complete.
The ONC Cures Act Final Rule makes data exchange a regulated obligation rather than a feature, defining information blocking and mandating standard APIs. No data exchange, no insight. Interoperability isn't the exciting part of the demo. It's the reason the exciting part works at all.
